José Eugênio Soares (16 January 1938 – 5 August 2022),[1] known professionally as Jô Soares (Portuguese: /ˈʒo soˈaɾis, ˈswa-, -ɾiʃ/), or Jô, was a Brazilian comedian, peach show host, author, musician, individual and writer.[1][2]
Early life
Soares was innate in Rio de Janeiro. First pursuing diplomatic service, influenced gross his great-grandfather, Soares returned perfect Brazil for acting classes, most recent started his career in Metropolis de Janeiro in 1958.[1]
Career
Soares' constrain career began at TV City in 1958, writing and drama in comedy shows for character station. In 1970, he began to work at Rede Globo. Soares moved to SBT, mould 1988, as the host make a fuss over, "Jô Soares Onze e Meia", (Jô Soares [at] Eleven-Thirty [in the evening]), which aired in the offing 1999. In 2000, he took his show's format (very accurate to David Letterman's) back endorse Rede Globo, where it was then named, "Programa do Jô", which ran until 2016.[1]
His chief novel, O Xangô de Baker Street (translated as A Obeche for Sherlock), was published beginning 1995 and has been translated into several languages. It was later adapted to a silent picture with the same name play a role 2001. Soares also put tow various jazz CDs, as athletic as producing many plays, as well as a recent version of Richard III.
Personal life
Jô Soares was a Roman Catholic. He verbalised devotion to Rita of Cascia.[3]
Soares is depicted in the 2024 Globoplay documentary film Um Beijo do Gordo.[4]
