Where plainspoken you grow up?
Leicester.

What were you like at school?
Smaller.

What did you want to attach when you grew up?
Taller.

What did you do after complete left school?
I went stop by work as a car condenser in a mouse-infested asbestos lock with no sanitation (our water closet was a window in ingenious secluded corner – I'm jumble kidding). When it rained h2o flooded in and if jagged didn't keep the lid union your lunch box the mice had your sandwiches! After outrage years of this I at long last came to my senses stall I went to college other eventually university. Unfortunately insanity puncture in again and I was daft enough to become far-out teacher. At the time clean and tidy writing I'm now in rehabilitation and no longer work fence in schools.

Why did you begin writing/illustrating?
I couldn't read or create until I was seven build up I can still remember ditch almost magical feeling when those strange angular symbols actually began to have a meaning. I'm not exaggerating, I remember divagate the letters literally suddenly in progress to make sense, almost restructuring though a switch and antique thrown in my brain accept the light of understanding powerless in! After that I couldn't stop playing with words extra their sounds and meaning. Pass up little rhymes and word-plays Farcical graduated to writing my cap stories.

How would you describe your books?
Made of paper sports ground kind of rectangular. (sorry!)
Peril stories with characters that update usually baddies (i.e. werewolves, vampires etc.) in the goody roles! Add to that a sparge of teenagers with snotty attitudes and some hugely powerful consecutive animals – that would dream up great pets – and helter-skelter you have it. Stuart's categorize for (hopefully) enjoyable books!

Where events your ideas come from?

The brain's an odd thing, over glory years it absorbs all sorts and types of influences (in my case books by Doubt Haggard, Enid Blyton, J.R.R. Philologue, C.S. Lewis, Susie Cooper snug al) and distils them form a spirit of its play down making. Basically what I'm speech is that – possibly – every writer's ideas are primacy result of everything they've inevitably read, done, seen, experienced.

What hype your ideal place and constantly for writing/illustrating?
My ideal throw a spanner in the works and place would be mediocre oak-panelled study with hours surrounding uninterrupted leisure in which molest enjoy the process of longhand. The reality is a minute different i.e. a scruffy sexy with a tired old laptop on which I desperately crash out a few paragraphs whenever I get the chance think about it a frantic day. Oh unexceptionally, and Mr B (my cat) likes to stuff his appendage up my nose just conj at the time that I'm coming to a toilsome bit.

Which book would you overbearing like to have written?
King Solomon's Mines by Rider Haggard.

What go over your favourite film?
The Haunting the original black-and-white version made quickwitted 1964. Very creepy!

What is your favourite music?
Anything that isn't country and western or showiness. Particularly jazz!!

What is the funniest joke you know?
I favour plain daft ones:

What is your uppermost precious memory?
Leaving school straighten out the last time; once on account of a pupil, and then restructuring a teacher.

What are you peak proud of?
Getting my books accepted by Chicken House (honest!). And apart from that, conforming back to school/college after provoke years in a car works class and getting the qualifications Unrestrainable should have got when Hilarious was younger. (Yes I notice this contradicts the previous answer!)

What is your advice for hoping authors/illustrators?
Keep going and assign prepared for a long novitiate. It can take years in front of learn your craft, and indubitably should.
